Research + empathy.  After a short series of interviews, I distilled the information about each persona into a group of business questions. These questions serve as the foundation of what needs to be addressed and answered for each user.

Ideation and paper prototying.  The two retail store personas had two very different use cases for a location-based analytics application. A store operations manager looks for patterns in traffic, maintenance, sales, and personnel to make sure the store is running cleanly and efficiently. The Marketing persona looks for patterns in purchasing behavior, and movements throughout the store's departments to plan and execute promotions and campaigns. Both use cases benefit from the visualization of foot traffic and movement patterns, but the overlays and supporting charts would vary.

Digital prototyping and ideation. I pull inspiration from geospatial analytics applications and smaller scale visualizations to ensure that the solution is the right blend of familiar, intuitive, and detailed.

Digital prototyping and digital design review.  I review and mark up all concepts with the client by my side to ensure that nothing is lost in translation

High-fidelity wireframing. I review all designs with data scientists and developers to ensure feasibility and the best use of analytics. Many times a data scientist will recommend providing much deeper insights through different simulations and recommendation engines.
